Due to continued angler interest, we are accepting donations for a Spring 2015 Trout Stocking on the South Branch of the Raritan River. The NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife will resume normal stocking operations this year but will only be stocking Rainbow Trout raised at the Pequest Hatchery. There are no plans to raise either Brown or Brook Trout until at least 2018 due to continuing concerns about Furunculosis, a naturally occurring bacteria that can devastate hatchery populations. The certified disease free Rainbow and Brown Trout purchased for the Shannon's Private Stocking are purchased from The Musky Trout Hatchery owned and operated by Vern and Jeff Mancini in Asbury, New Jersey located in Warren County, New Jersey. They have been Shannon's source for high quality fish for the last ten years. Last year for the 2014 season, the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife did not stock the South Branch of the Raritan upstream of Lake Solitude Dam in High Bridge so as not to risk spreading the disease to holdover and wild populations of trout. This was the first time since it's opening that the Pequest hatchery had this problem. The Upper South Branch includes the Ken Lockwood Gorge and the waters in and around Califon then up through Long Valley to its source at Budd Lake. At Shannon's we are honored to be a part of New Jersey's fishing community and with your help we can enhance the quality of our fishery this season.
